What
is the difference between Long Distance & Local Toll Calls?
Basically, there are four types of calls you can
make. By learning the differences, you can better understand your
calling needs. If you have any questions at all, please call First
Step toll free at 1.800.385.9000 today!
1.Local
Local calls are calls within your immediate area that you are not
charged for. Rather, they are included in your plan through your
local phone company. First Step does not offer local service at
this time. Contact your local phone company to find out where your
local calling area is.
2.Local
Toll
Local Toll calls are calls outside your local and extended area
but within your Local Access and Transport Area (LATA). A LATA refers
to a regional boundary drawn by the government. Local Toll calls
may be dialed as 1+Area Code and Phone Number. (With First Step,
all local toll calls are just 4.9 cents per minute, 24 hours a day,
7 days a week.)
3.Long
Distance
Long Distance calls are outside of your local and local toll calling
areas. You have to dial 1+Area Code for these calls, which may be
to areas in your home state or throughout the United States. (With
First Step, all long distance calls are just 4.9 cents per minute,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.)
4.International
All calls outside the United States are considered International
calls. First Step features great International rates around the
world. These rates vary - contact First Step for current rates to
the country you are calling.
Why
do I still need a local carrier?
First Step does not offer local telephone service

calls (in your neighborhood) and any features, such as Caller ID
